5 ways to help you get fit in January

It’s a New Year and after a boatload of chocolate, pigs in blankets and mince pies our bodies are probably screaming out for a little detox and exercise.

So here are 5 ways to help get you back on the road to fitness.

  1. Set yourself a goal

Look ahead to where you want to be. Whether it’s a goal for 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years set yourself a realistic target – maybe sign up for a 5/10k run and have something to work towards.

  1. Take a hike

Walking is a great way to revitalise your body and mind. Look for scenic walking routes in your local area and round up your pals to join you for a walk. Start small and take a 15-minute walk each day and then a 30-minute walk the week after. Make walking part of your everyday routine.

  1. Re-think your food choices

Thanks to the world of social media, eating healthy has never been easier! Eating is part and parcel when wanting to get fit so look at what you put into your body to help you change it! Make a conscious effort to have your 5 a day and don’t be afraid to try something new! You will get 10% off at your local Co-op store with your NUS extra card.

  1. Personalise your playlist

Music helps us work out, there’s no doubt about it, so spend some time putting together a playlist that will help motivate you to move.

  1. Track your progress

You have a goal to track your way to reaching it – whether you write it down and try out a fitness app or whatever helps you keep it up and not give up!
